Built in the 1960s, the West Suburban YMCA was in need of major changes to provide the amenities required to reverse declining membership. The branch had multiple small fitness areas, duplicate gymnasiums and fractured program spaces.
25,000 square feet of crowded space was opened up and combined to provide a cohesive main floor to fitness, wellness and community options for the healthy and health seekers.
Key elements include the reorientation of traffic patterns, improved security, an energized space at the front entrance, accessible and friendly staff contact areas, and an open plan that invigorates members participating in a fitness program.
Completed in 2008.
