In an effort to build a safe space for children in this central city neighborhood, the Boys & Girls Club joined with Milwaukee Public Schools to build a facility with wrap-around services for the entire Metcalfe Park community.
The school library, art room, and gym are available to the community and programmed by the Boys & Girls Club. The entry to the building serves as both the check-in for members of the Club and the entrance to the school.
The building can function as a single entity available to the whole community, or it can be partitioned for the school, the Club, and private events.
This facility was the model for the Neighborhood School Initiative launched by Milwaukee Public Schools, combining their schools with youth-serving social service organizations.
Completed in 2001.
